Hi All,

as all of us knows that some countries in Africa suffers from a enviromental phenomena called Harmatan which basically is constituted of some cold winds blowing in summer time or during summer season . this phenomena last from November till January which causes some long and intensive fading durations.
does pathloss 4.0 has a special criteria which we should consider in order to overcome HARMATAN?

There are two methods by the helo of which Harmattan affect can be incorporated in Pathloss4. During Harmattan region the "k-factor" varies as dN/dH varies due to intensity of dust cloud and ITU have quarterly charts for the dN/dH variation. Consulting those charts and selecting the appropriate value of dN/dH will cater the Harmattan affect.

The other way is to check the visibility during worst Harmatan season. Based on the visibility and temperature there is a formula that can be used to calculate the per km db loss in the RSL and the link can be planned for to compensate that extra loss.

Hope it will help.
