Radio Line of Sight Surveys

Anyone out there interested in Radio Line of Sight Surveys?

Far better than lights or other methods. Uses hand portable equipment with range of up to 60km. Quick, all weather (as long as its safe to climb), voice link and distance measurement. Overcomes excessive clearance issues as optimum antenna heights determined.

Hi Gray

is this an equipment introduction? If yes, can you tell me which equipment is that and have you already tested this for long hops.

Hi Sayed,

This is a service we provide. We have used it in excess of 50km so far. I can send you details if you give me an email address.

Hi Gray,
Would you be kind enough to share the details of your LOS process? If your service/.equipment suit us then we can check the feasibility in terms of prices/terms & conditions.

Hello Asad,

Apologies for the delay, I?ve been carrying out LoS surveys amongst other things.

The instruments are self contained, hand portable and battery powered. Set up generally only takes a few minutes once in position.

The equipment is in fact a small microwave transceiver and as such the procedure is much the same as aligning a microwave link. We know the path length and from the Pathloss profile the indicated clear antenna heights. The expected receive signal is taken from a calibration graph. Initially communication between both ends is established using mobile phones or hand held radios and each end is aligned for maximum signal level. Once a receive signal is established communication can then be over the equipment. Where the expected level is not obtained heights are adjusted to try and gain signal improvement to meet the predicted. Conversely heights can be reduced to determine a minimum height. Heights and receive levels are noted and photos taken of the antenna aperture and towards the direction of line of sight.

Hi, I have two questions. How do you consider and compensate for tests which are performed when there is no vegetation on the trees and you will have full signal strength at the receiver and then when the trees put on leaves the path may be partially or fully obstructed.

Also, on longer links do you perform the measurements over a period of weeks and months to determine that the path was not in a super or for that matter sub refractive state and the measurements you take do not represent the actual mean operating condition of the centerline you propose?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi GRay,

This is something different for the LOS surveys. Can i have details please.
