Space Diversity !!

Hey Everyone !

While planning a space diversity link ( to avoid Multipath ) , should I add any tx radio (ODU) to the diversity antenna ??

Does anyone have a physical layout shows the connectivity of a space diversity link would works and how is the combiner combines the link , I would like to have more documents on designing the space diversity.

Thanks for the help !

Normally the diversity antenna is receive only. When designing a space diversity link in Pathloss you would select the TRDR-TRDR antenna configuration.

Space diversity radios using IF combining can improve the thermal fade margin up to 3 dB. This improvement can also be specified in the radio data file. The default improvement is 2.6 dB. The actual improvement depends on the difference between the main and diversity receive signals signal and the combiner efficiency. It can be argued that this improvement is artificial and is not realized in practice. During deep fades, there will be significant difference between the main and diversity signals; and therefore, the performance will be identical to a baseband switching system.

Chris , Thanks for the reply.

If i got this correctly,,,the DR antenna would be connected to a combiner through IF cable only . then there is no radio involved on the second antenna as 1+1 configuration.
I was looking for some physical and real case scenario diagrams, couldn’t find any
