Which Rx threshold criteria is recommended

BER 10-6 per G826 OR
BER 10-3 per G821

Considering that designed link is going be carried Ater , 3G Real Time and Abis ?I just want official response and reasonable as I usually see BER 10-6 is work good when 3G carried over this designed link

Note:
1-Availability in G821 is specified in terms of 10-3, Use 10-3 for G821 design criteria and Availability in G826 is specified in terms of 10-6, Use 10-6 for G826 design criteria
2-Modification of the chosen threshold BER (10-3,10-6,BERses) changes the thermal fade margin of the link. It seems that this figure is then used to calculate the Worst Month SESR
3-The bit-error probability is a function of the SNR of a link, with noise initially taken as the thermal noise floor of the receiver. BER is in turn a function of the resulting error distribution

G.826 is the updated recommendation used for calculating the link quality. G.821 is older recommendation and was designed primarily for PDH traffic. Now a days G.826 is most reliable prediction model used for Link's Qulaity calculation.
As far as BER@10-3/10-6 is concerned both G.821/G.821 standards can be used with both the options (BER@10-3/10-6)as this BER is not a parameter of Recommendation rather it is equipment parameter; one is called Static Threshold while other is Dynamic Threshold.
BER@10-3 is used when we have only voice traffic while for the traffic carrying Data as well, we use BER@10-6 to calculate the link FM in order to keep your link availability stringent, as data is loss sensitive.
The difference in the FM by using two different BERs is due to the reason that the radios sensitivity drops by 2-3db, depending on different vendors, when you switch the BER criteria from 10-3 to 10-6.
Hope it will help.

Thank a lot ,

I advise to never use BER 10-3 as that will result in a somewhat impaired 3G service and use BER 10-6/BER 10-9 in order for WCDMA RAN to be able to provide its specified services performance, the transmission quality provided by SDH links shall be in accordance to the following performance objectives:

?
ESR (Errored Seconds Ratio) < 0.0008 (E1), 0.0015 (VC3), 0.0032 (STM-1)
?
SESR (Severely Errored Seconds Ratio) < 0.00016
?
BBER (Background Block Error Ratio) < 4.0E-06

And Propagation delay: ≤ 5 ms plus Packet Loss: ≤ 10-6 suggested for IP-based transport network solutions both Real-time (voice) Traffic and Best Effort HSPA traffic
